Sangha Day Festival
Sunday 16th November - 1000 to 1630
There are many festival days in the Buddhist calendar and they all fall on full moon days. The full moon day of November is Sangha Day (for convenience I have chosen the closest Sunday to celebrate).
The day will include Meditations, a Talk from another ordained member of the Western Buddhist Order, discussion, lunch (please bring vegetarian lunch to share) and on this day John Gridleys Mitra Ceremony will be held, which is particularly exciting as it will be Deal’s first - Hooray! Or as Buddhists say, Sadhu! (more about what a mitra ceremony is below). This day is led by Danapriya.
Please book for this day as space is limited, the day will be on a donation basis.
What is a Mitra?
Within the FWBO (Friends of the Western Buddhist Order) the first step to a deepening commitment as a Buddhist is that individuals can decide for themselves to take the step of becoming a Mitra, Mitra is the Pali word for Friend, so become a Friend of the Western Buddhist Order. There are three criteria, firstly one feels oneself to be a Buddhist, secondly one is trying to practice the precepts and lastly that one wants to practice within the context of the FWBO.
If anyone else feels this applies to them, do speak to me and perhaps we could have more ceremonies on this our first festival day. I hope to see you there.
